Contact the NRA or look on the internet for ranges in your area. Most ranges are eager to welcome new shooters (customers) as long as you have a positive attitude and can follow basic instructions.

Shooting can be an incredibly fun and rewarding activity if you have the desire to learn.

Been There, Done That. 2 years ago

I took a couple of workshops years ago. Haven’t followed through on them. If ever I have to be on set and I have to hold a gun, there’ll be someone there anyway to show me what to do.

actually went shooting 2 years ago

I know, FINALLY

the 22 was pretty happy about hitting what I aimed at. Also shot the taurus and the sks without as much success. Handling them for a couple of hours and seeing exactly what had to happen to make them go off was enlightening. got a little more of the afterschool special fear out of me. I may go again sometime, the bit where I actually hit what I aimed at was kind of fun. But now I feel like I am at least minimally competent which was the big thing.

trying to learn a little about one gun at a time – and the #1 thing to learn about each of them is how to check if they are empty and unload them. The one gun at a time comes up because we watch a lot of action movies and read a lot of thrillers. So I say “Hey I didn’t know you had a Browning Hi Power!” (all the cool wwii people carry em!) and get to mess with the particular gun that was just shown. I think seeing them all at once was too overwhelming.

Also – STILL haven’t gone shooting. But now we know a place to go.

i really don't want to go to the range 3 years ago

all those afterschool specials are still ingrained in me. i believe that if i drop a gun, it will go off and kill someone, even though i know it’s patently false.

I think I’ll help N. clean em after he goes to the range – attempt to get more comfortable handling them safely.

Fire Arms Safety Course. 3 years ago

I took one with F. Braun McAsh a few years ago, but I have yet to really practice with them. I don’t want to feel scared of guns, so if I know how to use them, the fear will go away. Plus they’re often offered to actors for when they need to use them on a movie/tv set.

first lesson today 4 years ago

we looked at all the guns in the house, what all their parts are, and how to unload them.
