10/09 – women (yes, thats the name of the band), according to Wikipedia: “The band’s sound has been likened to ‘sunny Beach Boys pop [...] dragged into a dark alley and gleefully mutilated’”, it just sounds amazing to me.
11/09 – deerhunter, they have a bunch of albums i have not yet had the chance to really listen to. The one I am going crazy over now is “weird era continued” which is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. Really. Its a feeling of beautiful despair, and regret at not being able to express myself in music the way these guys do. I read about the band, and the lead singer bradford cox has a genetic disorder called marfans syndrome that affects his connective tissue and it makes him extremely tall, skinny and bony (as well as affecting some of his organs). When he was in his early teens his parents split and left him alone in their old home, at that time he had no friends and he started making music to express his emotions. According to wikipedia: “With no friends, Cox became interested in how music could sound ‘heartbreaking or nostalgic or melancholy’” and this is an incredible job of that. Its so dreamy and lo-fi, its already one of my favorite albums ever.
