I would like to get a group from our church to come help serve food to the homeless people.

How I did it: If you're in the DC area, check out Miriam's Kitchen near Foggy Bottom. They have a number of local universities and companies that provide volunteers (including my own - which is how I got involved) - but they'd probably welcome other volunteers. And if nothing else, they always need donations of food and clothing. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I was invited through a friends church group. Now i know a great place i can go every Saturday in Baltimore. All I had to do was commit to it, show up, do what was asked of me and smile. It was a wonderful experience and I was glad to be of service and greatful to be the one serving insted of the one needing to be served that day. Read how I did it…

How I did it: For Confirmation, my church makes the kids do one of the community service projects they set up, so i decided to go work at the soup kitchen for my hours. Everyone there was so friendly and they are just like anyone else. I feel that we have this notion that the homeless are these filthy people who creep on little kids, but they were very nice and polite. Read how I did it…

I want to take my daughter with me to help at a soup kitchen. She needs to learn to be more caring towards other people and not take things for granted. Also I think she’d feel good about helping others so she’d learn that you can get a good feeling inside about helping others who are less fortunate.

Not when everyone else does it (e.g. Thanksgiving and Christmas) but when there is a lack of volunteers. Must be a medium term commitment, not just once and done.
Hello, I would like to volunteer serving in a soup kitchen. I want my 15 year old to realize there are people who don’t have everything and do need help. She is at the self centered age. I wqnt to change that.nrse77@aol.com

The charity was helping/supporting the unemployed and lonely people
My job was to help another person to cook one meal a week for 25-50 people, wash the dishes and clean the place.
The meal was not free…but very low price

...as a separate goal, so I’m going to drop this one off my list. I’m still hoping to do this sometime before the end of 2008.
Yeah I would like to volunteer at a soup kitchen, and not necessarily on Thanksgiving either. I would sort of like to do it some time this week, which happens to be June. My initial search on google hasn’t produced any results on how to volunteer at a place near me. And I don’t really leave the house or have any friends so google is pretty much all I’ve got. I’m sort of doing this as a way to get out of the house too. I live in Longmont CO, and I sort of get the feeling from this place, that people don’t put stuff up on websites too often. Any ideas?
