I stayed true to my word and hiked on my land the third weekend in October…It felt good to have the mountain air fill my lungs and the leaves were beautiful. I discovered “glass rock” on the property and imagine the Indians must have used it to decorate their abode, or even as safety shields for their eyes, as you can peel off the outer layer of the rock and you get a perfectly clear film!!
Triniprincess asked me to snap some pictures, and I told her that I would. Here are two pics of the leaves changing and the magical glass rock that I discovered!

Okay, I’m not such a huge fan of doggy dress up, but they’re getting into the spirit at least.
I really love putting together a good costume and getting all dolled up. This year, I’m going to try to put together a day of the dead outfit. 2 years ago

When else can I buy loads of chocolate without getting stared at funny, and dress in crazy-silly-scary ways without people asking why?
Plus, I love the act of trick or treating. The mischief maker in me still wishes it was a little more literal, but I love taking kids around anyway. 2 years ago

I really want to go apple picking.
I know there are places nearby that do it, and I always think about it when they’re in season, but I never have.
Maybe I’ll do that on my birthday. I love apples. 2 years ago

My father has two wood stoves in the old house, one is modern like this, and the other is much more old fashioned.
I love them so much! I’ve been working there every day, so in the morning I stoke the fires, feed it, let it simmer all day.
October is usually the time when it starts getting cold enough to use them. 2 years ago

Pumpkin pie… such a wonderful food. Not too sweet, just the right spice.
I wait all year for it. That, and pumpkin cheesecake, which is something I give myself a piece of on my birthday. 2 years ago

I admit, this one is odd because I never eat this kind of stuff. I’m not a huge fan of sweet things, especially sugar cereal… much more of a savory girl, but for some reason Booberry just takes me right back to technicolor commercials and Saturday mornings in October. 2 years ago

I want to get out and witness the transition of the seasons this year. Considering I own 20 acres of land on an unoccupied mountaintop in North Georgia, it would be a crying shame if I wasted this opportunity to connect with nature. I will make it a point to celebrate yet another turning of the seasons by hiking some of the trails that lead out from my property to hundreds of acres of quiet woods. Since the changing of the colors of the leaves is imminent this month, I shouldn’t waste this chance to get outside and commune with nature!! 2 years ago

For me, ANYTIME is Universal Monster time, because I’m kind of obsessed with these films. If you can’t tell from my avatar.
But I always put them on hardcore rotation when the Halloween season rolls around. October reminds me to bring out the monsters and love them all over again. 2 years ago

I don’t particularly mean the song, but it does capture the beauty in falling leaves.
October is when the leaves really start turning and blowing away. When I look out the window the air is full of them, and it’s wonderful. Another favorite thing about this time of year. I don’t want it to end, but I love the trees when they’re bare just as much. 2 years ago

Okay, I wanted to save this for closer to the 31st, but I can’t help myself.
This is one of my favorite songs.
Kembra Pfahler in The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, rockin’ about Halloween. Too perfect. 2 years ago

The smell of burning pumpkins.
That is one of my favorite smells ever. I usually keep a tiny pumpkin in my room, on my altar, to burn a little bit each night, just for the smell.
My pumpkins never turn out half as good as those look, but it wouldn’t be October without some good, old fashioned carving. 2 years ago

Something you’ll learn very quickly about me if we spend time together around this time of year is that I’m a little obsessed with pumpkin butter. I dream about it all year, and then when autumn finally comes, I stock up like a mad woman. So good! This year, I’m going to try to make my own.
AND, I’ve found a recipe for “autumn quesadillas” that involve pumpkin butter, and let me just say… I’m excited.
Haven’t found pumpkin butter yet, but I’m hoping my local farmer’s markets stock it SOON! 2 years ago

I wanted to grow up and be a Sanderson sister when I was younger…
...who wouldn’t?
I’m still plotting a Salem trip at some point—maybe when the crowds die down. 2 years ago

Ray Bradbury has always been one of my favorite authors, and no one captures the month of October better in my mind. The Halloween Tree is one of my favorites, mostly for the descriptions.
I try to watch the movie every year too. It’s available on youtube for your enjoyment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBpZUTJXMX8 2 years ago

I thought I’d share 31 things in 31 days that make me love this month.
To help me, and hopefully everyone here, get into the spirit.
The first: Forever Autumn by Lake of Tears.
A song and video that capture autumn quite nicely, to me. 2 years ago
