Yayy this is such a great way to support your community and produce growers!! Which CSA do I pick from?? Sadly there are no local csa farms per say (though now, living in rural sc… anything within 40 min. is considered ‘local’!!!) I was at the charleston green fair and met a few farms that offer csa and one lady showed me a typical bag of what you’d get and those veggies looked so good! She told me they bag/box whatever is being harvested at that time so you never know what all to expect, but they also pack recipee cards to go with all the vegetables. This excited me as I’ve been exploring my culinary side and eating fresh a lot more in the first place. So I really want to join the CSA. I really like the one that gives you recipee cards because they have a 2 person bag option with is 180$ for the season and this is the best pricing I’ve found also. but then it’s the most far and inconvenient location! Sigh. So I don’t know… i’ll be looking for one, maybe it’s just an hour drive once a week so I don’t know!

We were looking for a CSA that didn’t practice animal agriculture, and we found one. We asked our neighbors if they’d like to split a share, and it looks like that might happen.

daydreamingmom wondering why I haven't done these things on this list in the last yea
I found a CSA. Now, I need to see what month they start distributing. Basically you pay one sum (around $400) and from (approximately) April to October you get season fruits and veggies once a week. I am sure I would have to experiment with some recipes too…this could be fun.

from the farm I’m hoping to purchase a CSA from. In the box, there were leeks, garlic, onions, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, beets, turnips, winter squash, eggs, and even some oranges. We’re working hard to eat it all! We included some of the potatoes, garlic, turnips and eggs in our Christmas dinner.
P roasted some of the garlic, and strings of caramelized garlic came out of it! We’ve never seen that before!

and got on their mailing list. They’ll send me sign-up materials in December. Woohoo! I’m so looking forward to getting fresh, locally grown veggies every week without having to go to a farmer’s market. (I don’t mind the farmer’s market, but nobody in my family really likes to go along, and the timing is often less than ideal.)
