I want to be able to bench, squat, and dead lift my body weight (175 lbs.). Right now I can do none of those things, which means, according to Men’s Fitness Magazine, I am in the “Damn, you’re weak” category. I went online to find a basic workout routine to get started. I found this website http://www.leehayward.com/workout_programs/
and decided to use it because the material is free, the website has a simple layout, and the explanations are articulate enough for me to understand. I’ll read a couple of books along the way to better educate myself on correct exercise, but right now I just need to get into a routine. In college I took a weightlifting course and continued afterward until I graduated. I was the strongest I had every been, and it showed. Then I stopped going to the gym and in a matter of weeks my ectomorphic body atrophied back into a weak and stringy version of my former self.
So, I’m giving it the old college try…again.

I WANT TO WORK OUT EVERY DAY EVEN IF I AM DEPRESSED AND DON’T FEEL LIKE GETTING UP OUT OF BED. I NEED TO AT LEAST PUT A LITTLE EFFORT IN WHEN AND WHERE I CAN. EVERYTHING COUNTS. EVERY LITTLE BIT AND EVENTUALLY I WILL BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS SO I NEED NOT GIVE IN SO QUICKLY. WHO CARES WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK, DO AND SAY BECAUSE IN THE END ALL I HAVEN IS MYSELF AND IF I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MYSELF NOTHING ELSE WILL MATTER. THE ONLY ONE LEFT BESIDES ME IF HES A REAL ENTITY WILL BE MY MAKER.

For the last two weeks I’ve been able to motivate myself to lift weights nearly every day. I’ve yet to make it a habit.
This is my first week weight training. I have lifted two days this week. I have decided that I want to do weight lifting to shape and tone my body. I do 3 set of 12. Sunday was the first day and I didn’t know quite where to start so I used all the machines. After doing some research, I felt more productive on Monday and I worked on my legs and stomach.
I started a few weeks back and it’s going pretty good, well sort of. There’s times when I just can’t be bothered which is really bad, but at least I’m doing it a good few times a week.
I just need to start focusing more, and motivating myself to do it daily!
I’m doing this for the same reason as wanting to gain weight; I’m fed up of being the skinny one!
I’ve got weights, it’s just a question of actually going some exercises for my upper body. A while back I managed to find a website on what exercises can benefit what muscles so I’m going to have to have a search for it and get down to business.
I got the New Rules of Lifting for Women book and it’s really fantastic. I have only done about 8 workouts so far in the past few months, and am deciding whether to start fresh in the new year or just pick up where I am and try for the 2 times a week (hopefully 3 times). It is sad to see my entries dated in September and October, and now it’s mid-December.
The workout itself is really really great. I feel so strong when I go, and it is beyond cool to be using barbells.
The only problem is that often I don’t go. The gym is half a mile away from my office, and I get into this silly dilemma of how to fit it into my day (during the day or at the end of the day), the resolution of which is that I usually don’t end up going at all.
I do have a kettlebell at home and a ball and some dumbbells, and I am more consistent about doing things with those. No barbell at home, though, so I can’t do the New Rules workout at home.
..cuz I think I did myself quite a bad injury several months back that still hasn’t healed!
I lift your heavy groceries for 8 hours a day. My back and arm muscles have strengthened considerably.
