Kinky Twists; First Try = Success!! 1 month ago

Apparently, my first try was in fact a success. I was told that I couldn’t do it, but then out of eagerness to challenge myself, try something new with my hair, and prove a certain person wrong…i did it. took me about, let’s say about 12 hours. I’ve been getting compliments, so it must look good. I wasn’t planning on keeping it for longer than two weeks, but I might just do so now. Supposedly it makes me look more mature. I didn’t want the twists so big, I actually wanted them longer and for my hair to look more full. Supposedly, this actually looks like its my own hair. ?? je ne sais pas. I cut off a few split ends while I was braiding. I found ALOT when i had washed my hair. Apparently, I’m in dire need of a trim. I used Janet, Afro Kinky Bulk…exactly 2.5 packs. (actually wasnt sure I’d even use 2 packs, cuz when i was halfway through I had only used a half of a pack). The hardest part I found about it, was trying to figure out the amount of hair to use on each braid, and the amount of my own hair to part for each braid to get a specific size twist. Even after all I did, I’m still not sure how I did it. thats why if you look real close, you’ll notice I have different sized twists in my hair.

Loadz of Updates 2 months ago

Will have to check on that the next time I wash my hair. Which will probably be some time around Halloween. Okay! Well I have decided on four new Hair adjustments I will do:

    (1) Buy Giovanni Direct Leave-In (I’ve run out of hair mayonnaise – which I later found out had the worst ingredients ever for kinky hair!!) I’ve heard great things about this product and its only $8, so I have a feeling thats this is gonna become a staple.

    (2) Okay, with kinky/curly hair there is so many things to consider when buying hair products. Moisture/Protein Balance , Product Ingredients to Avoid , and ofcourse Price!! Carol’s Daughter is friggin expensive. Okay, so its not as expensive as Jane Carter, which I foolishly wasted my money on (wont do that again), but still i dont want to spend $15-$20 on each hair product, when with my hair, I’ll need about 2 or 3 just to last me for month! So I’ve decided to do something drastic. I will be making my own, natural concoctions, besides my conditioner (I’m loving Pantene Relaxed and Natural Intensive Moisturizer). After looking up all the stuff thats good for my type of hair, I’ve decided on making these two serums (once my Giovanni runs out ofcourse):

    Conditioner:
    2 Eggs
    1 Avocado (smooshed)
    Coconut Milk
    Jojoba Oil

    Everyday Leave-In:
    Rosemary
    Honey
    Amla
    Coconut Oil
    Peppermint
    Water
Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil
    Shea Butter

I’m quite excited to see how it turns out. This is fun! With much research, I can bring out my creative side to make something healthy and cheap for my hair. I feel like a scientist! lol :D

    (3) Speaking of conditioners, though Pantened Relaxed and Natural conditioner has some ingredients in there I know I should fear, for some reason, when I use it, my curls become so very defined! that means its moisturizing! Its the only conditioner that defines my hair like that when I’m in the shower. So upon my next wash, I’ve decided to leave the conditioner in (as a leave-in), seal in the moisture with olive oil in small sections, then use fantasia IC olive oil gel to get rid of freeze and lock curls into place. I dont get much shrinkage with that conditioner, but I’m wondering what its gonna look like once dry. yikes!

    (4) Okay, so the wash AFTer my next wash, I will do twists with synthetic kinky hair. I’ve had it done like 4 times to my hair, I’ve seen ppl do it to their own hair, and I have friends that know how to do it. So, with their guidance I’m hoping that i can possibly do it myself. Now I’m buying Janet, the best kinky hair, 3 packs…so thats like 20 bucks. I’m gonna attempt it myself, no biggy if it doesn’t come out right. I dont think it’ll look too horrible. But I’m not planning to keep it in longer than two weeks. cuz Basketball season starts on November 20th and I wanna have my fro so I’m not forced to wear a ponytail like eveyone else. :D

Daily Scalp Stimulation 2 months ago

    Scalp Stimulation and Hair Growth
“Scalp-stimulating” massages are a crucial part of your healthy hair regimen. Massages should be done daily to improve circulation, help nourish the scalp and keep the skin loose, which allows the blood to flow easily to the roots of the hair.

How to Do a Proper Scalp Massage :

Place all ten fingertips firmly on your head. Arch your hands and make sure the palms aren’t touching the scalp. Remember, only the pads of the fingers should be pressing against the scalp. Stay in this arched position and “scrunch” the scalp by drawing your fingers together. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds and then spread the fingers apart. Imagine flexing and unflexing the fingers, while the fingertips are resting on the scalp. Repeat this technique at different positions on the scalp; moving from front to back, then back to front.

After massaging, your scalp will feel tingly and refreshed. After you’ve gotten the hang of it, you might try adding essential oils or herb-infused oils to your daily massage. Regular massages with nutrient-rich oils can do wonders for abused hair that needs a bit of life and shine and to leave it silky smooth. Try the following scalp-stimulating oil mix with your next massage.

    1Tbsp./10 ml Coconut oil
    1 Tbsp./10 ml Almond oil
    1Tbsp./10 ml Evening primrose oil
    1Tbsp./10 ml Jojoba oil
    5 drops Rosemary oil
    5 drops Chamomile Roman oil
    5 drops lavender oil
5 drops peppermint or tea tree oil
