Have a great September art opening and sell work AT THE OPENING

I was about to just post that the opening reception went well, lots of people showed up, the food was good, and everything looked good. Then I read the goal above and noticed that I also listed “and sell work AT THE OPENING”. This is because up till this very moment, I had YET to sell a single painting/original drawing at an opening reception. I’m very happy to say that I met that goal. :) I sold two pieces at the opening and one book. Good stuff… hopefully more pieces will follow suit in the days and weeks to come.

I just emailed press releases to the local papers and all the local television stations. Tomorrow I may hit all the radio stations (19 in all) and then follow up a few days before I leave with a second emailing to make sure no one forgets to put me down in the news. The more press I can get the better the turn out will be.

I think I’d just shrivel up into a pathetic pile if the opening reception was sparse – especially since I’m flying all the way back up to Lansing for this. If I’m really lucky, someone might want to write about the show, or even cover it for the news. Those are some seriously high hopes though.

Well, the date of the show draws ever closer. My June/July/August exhibition is closing down now and soon some of my long lost paintings will be returning to me. Of the 11 paintings I hung in that show, only 3 remain unsold. That’s pretty exciting and the funny thing is, the work that I was least confident about sold completely so go me! I get a few paintings that I like back that I can try and sell again through my mailing list, send up to the gallery in NC for consignment, or simply hang onto them and see if I get any bites down the road.

Anyhow, the next show is going to be all the way up north in Michigan and I’m flying up there, renting a car and kicking around for three days prior to the opening reception. Hopefully I can sell enough work to cover the expense – what would be even better is to sell most of it. OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE
