How to live in Portland

How I did it: My husband and I moved to Portland for work reasons from the Netherlands. I think the most important lesson for us is not to compromise on place to live. We are downtown people and if you like to stay close to shops, restaurants and clubs you better live in the Perl or around NW 21st and 23rd. Portland is a city that has alot to offer. People are nice, friendly, relaxed and laid-back, tree-huggers also. The lifestyle is very outdoor and you can do snowboarding in the winter (Mt. Hood is only 2 hours away) and go to the beack in the summer (ocean is 2 hours away as well). For people that love books, Powell's book store is a paradise. There are some great restaurants like Casa del Matador, plates, Blue hour, Andina, Ken's artisan pizza, Maccaroni and Grill, Piazza Italia Lessons & tips: Don't miss the happy hour every First Thursday of the month in the Perl district. I’m moving to Portland at the end of July and I have never been there. Where do I live? I’d like to live in the city, maybe in a funky artsy neighborhood…any suggestions?

I use to live in Seattle and loved it….

Portland is fantastic. Easy to get around, mts., beach, rivers, trees galore, Powell’s Books, coffee, microbrewed beer…
...but too many people moving here.
