my money is a fraction of what i used to make, but i feel like a million bucks in regards to being away from that awful place. i got pinned for being a whistleblower (ironically, i wasn’t the whistleblower) because my big boss was stealing money through fake accounts he was collecting commision on. he’s under corporate investigation, and i’m not there anymore. the money issue sucks, but atleast now i have my sanity and i don’t have to bow down to unethical money hungry scum bags like my ex-boss for fear of losing my job.

I’ve never been good at playing office politics and so I ended up being the fall guy when we didn’t meet our goals. It was one of the best things. Even though we were dirt poor for a while, it got me out into the world again and opened my eyes to new opportunities.
I was fired from being a tour guide at my college as I “wasn’t CHEERLEADER enough”... yes that is right, that is a direct quote. but I wasn’t going to blatantly lie about how amazing the school is as in truth it blows… WESTFIELD STATE COLLEGE blows! but I am glad I was as I didnt like it and now I can say I was fired for not being cheerleader enough which is a great story!
I’ve never been fired before, but I often get tired of playing the part of the upstanding, responscible member of society. Just like in that episode of Seinfeld where George wants to get fired from the yankees, so he walks around the office eating messy foods in an original unform of Babe Ruth’s. I just hope there’s some time in my life when I have a job lined up in 2 months or so, so that I have the time to get a crappy job that I don’t care about just so I can get fired for blatant negligence just before my real job begins. Suppose I get to work for some fast food joint for a month and then one day: “Sorry boss, I kinda dropped the cash register into the deep fryer while filling the fry bin with chocolate milkshake. Guess I should leave and never come back, shouldn’t I?” Now that sounds like fun, but only once.
In both cases, I was already looking for another job. My heart was not in what I was doing. I think it is better for everyone involved if they can simply move on. I was free to get the work I really wanted, the employer was free to hire someone better suited, somebody got a job they wanted, and some other employer got me. Win-Win-Win-Win.
The obvious question, of course, is why not just quit? The simple answer is I did that once when I was quite young and discovered I couldn’t collect unemployment while I was job-hunting. Getting fired allows you that safety net. I certainly paid a fair share into the system. It’s only fair that I got something in return.
I was fired and given severance pay two days after I got another job offer. I never told my boss that I was going to quit anyways…. and then she wouldn’t have had to pay me for firing me without cause.
My new job is way better!
p.s. her business isn’t doing very well anymore… :)
p.p.s. I’m not a vengeful person. Really.
