How I did it: I was a bridesmaid in 2005 but only recently am I able to appreciate what it really entails, since I was young enough then that my mom fronted money for a lot. It's actually probably relatively stress-free if you don't volunteer to plan events, or the bride's maid of honor actually takes responsibility, and I was recently in each situation in different weddings.

How I did it: I was a bridesmaid at my sisters wedding back in August of 2009. The first and probably the last time I'll get the chance to do it. I never thought of being a bridesmaid, well except for once with my ex-best friend, but otherwise I haven't. It was never really a goal until my sister finally married her long term boyfriend (10 years!) & asked me to be a bridesmaid. Then I got all excited, got to wear a pretty dress, do my hair, get made up, it was really fun! Read how I did it… 18 months ago
The first time I did it, the wedding ended up getting cancelled. Granted, I felt very bad for my friend, but at the same time, she was getting married for the wrong reasons. I ended up with a full length, already altered dress that I couldn’t return. And since the wedding was cancelled 2 weeks after the bridal shower, I had spent money on a basket for a raffle and the bride’s gift – of which none were never returned to the buyers. Now my brother’s getting married and I’m the duo-maid-of-honor along with the bride’s daughter. She’s 14 so she doesn’t have to worry about anything, but I’m all on my own as far as figuring things out AND paying for everything.
