I cancelled my contract and boy did they work hard to try to get me to keep the darn thing! They offered to cut my payment in half for the next two months, to allow me to drop down to a “senior plan” even though I am not a “senior”, and on and on. I just kept saying no. I am going to be hit with the big $155 canellation fee, but after that, no more cell phone bill, positive result #1, and more importantly, the freedom to be unreachable!

latest idea 5 months ago

This idea is going to add to my goal of living a simpler life as well as save me some money. It all started because my daughter’s father cancelled her cell phone out of the blue with no warning. We have no home phone so that means if she is home alone, she would have no way of calling for help if needed. This really got me thinking about the whole phone issue, so I decided to get a home phone again and get rid of my cell phone. The home phone is going to cost $25 a month and that includes unlimited long distance. My cell phone bill is about $69, so that will be a monthly savings of about $45. I am going back to the old school way of doing things. At least when it comes to a phone.

okay... hrmmm... darn! 7 months ago

I so want to get rid of cell phones. I swore to myself a long time ago that I was not a cell phone sort of person- what is a cell phone sort of person? Well, I am a bit individual, loner-type, that loves tech, yet can not stand a life line to me that becomes an overbearing noose. I have got rid of the contract phones and am back to the pay as you go- yet I justify it by saying I need it for work. Do I really, though? I have dodged that in the past by keeping a well trained staff that is able to make decisions that they know I would make- and then trusting. I am near to having that situation again- very near. So… aiming for the vanishing phone trick in less thann three months? The only issue is when I finally give the phone up- in the past- something major happens to strap that unbearable weight back on me… we will see… Aiming for mid-July with this goal now.

It's over between me and radiation 19 months ago

Cell phones are inherently dangerous because of all the radiation waves that go through your head every time it transmits to the tower. Studies show that cell phones will be found to be as dangerous as smoking or even more so. This being because the cell phone companies act just like the tobacco companies in saying that there is nothing to worry about. Sooner or later, all cell phones will come with a warning label. Just you wait. I do have a Tracfone which I keep in my car and NEVER use. It is for emergencies only. I only have 60 minutes on it and it is inconsequential whether or not I use them because it is simply a safety net. But in the near future, I can see myself eschewing it as well.

It is a modern convenience, but it is also a deadly and annoying machine that only makes your free time become call time. The best part about not having a cell phone is now my boss can’t call me into work when I’m on the road or outside.

And let us not forget the bills that come with the cell phone. No thank you.

Only accidentally... 23 months ago

Okay dropping my cell phone accidentally helped me meet this goal. And now I have to pay to fix it and pay the bill. I refused… but I am going into cell withdrawal so I’m going to cave and never set this as a goal again.

Freedom! 2 years ago

Canceling my cell phone service on Monday! One less bill for me. I am quite relieved, because it was becoming too much of a problem for me.

I did this today! 2 years ago

Alright I was going to wait until my plan ran out in Aug. But I have reconsidered. I set up a home phone today, which will be hooked up Monday. And sent out a notice to my friends of the change. It feels scary a bit – but also nice. Not that this has ever happened to me but I am suddenly worried what will happen if I run out of gas on the road…
Further – I think this may actaully make me nuts in no time at all.

August... 2 years ago

In August my cell plan is up and I intend to be done with it. Maybe not forever but for awhile. I want the beauty of not being avaliable all the time. To have places where I am near a phone and places where I am not. But I have to wait for the plan to end becuase I can’t afford to get a home phone and a cell. So…soon. Its a little scary – one gets used to having these things.
