talk to my dad more

soooo, went to see my dad for the first time in two months, it was really good to see him, i really should go more often, im definatly going to make it a regular thing :D

my father is dead. i didn’t talk to him much. but he taught me somethings. so i cann’t really do this. but i can tell all of you, that cherish the time with them, if fights happen, try to make it better the next day, if you cann’t then i understand. but hold hope for the new day, it’s all you will have in some situations.

My parents are divorced and I live with my mom so I don’t get to see/talk to my dad that often. He has some issues that sometimes really makes me angry. But I’m going to try to call him more often to help him out and sort of guide him in the right direction. I feel more like I’m the parent in this situation, which also makes me angry…but he is my dad. I think if I try to talk to him more and guide him it might urge him to be a better person and hopefully a happier person. I’ve learned not to let his issues bother me/control me, which is why I use to avoid talking to him. I think this new approach will definatly ease the stress I feel in this relationship.

called home again and talked to dad. he told me that he recorded some books on cd for me and my husband. that’s pretty sweet of him. i had to let him and my mom know that i plan to go back to teaching (i was an elementary school teacher before I started my phd program). he was nice about it, even though i know he isn’t happy. he’d rather i continue to work on research and go straight to a university position.

I called my dad today. We chatted for about 20 minutes before he handed the phone over to my mom. I usually call my mom on her cell phone which cuts him out of the conversation completely. I decided that once a month I’ll call their home phone and make a point of talking to my dad.

I just got off of the phone with my father. He only confirmed what I had a gut feeling about all these years. He is, without a doubt, one of the most racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobic, arrant liars I’ve ever met.

I consider it a mark of pride that, thankfully, I’m nothing like him in thought or deed. At the end of the day, he’s the go between for myself and my family on that side.

At first, I thought it was just me. He talks a lot about reaching out and chastises me for not calling him but he never responds or reciprocates when I do reach out.

The blame for this lack in communication can’t be laid solely at my feet.

I will keep trying though. :(

Not sure why I kept putting this off…

Just called him and we have arranged to see each other on Saturday! Can’t wait. :)

Hopefully, this will be a new start and I’ll make much more of an effort in future. Totally recommend this one – If you haven’t spoken to someone in a while just take a deep breath and pick up the phone. :] x

I hardly make time for my dad anymore. :(

I used to visit him every sunday and he used to always say “When you grow up, you won’t have time for me”. It used to make me cry because I couldn’t imagine not making time for him.

But it happened.

Now I hardly see him – Sunday comes and Im too “busy”... clothes to wash, house to clean, need to catch up on my sleep, blah blah. Makes me feel so terrible. :(

Haven’t seen him now for a few months now, even though he’s called and sent me texts to ask if he can see me. Then, yesterday I received a text from him to say he’s going to India and would like to see me before he goes…

Decided that I will call him after I finish typing this…
