I am sending you a picture I took this week at the zoo. We had never been, and stopped by and found some amazing botanical gardens surrounding the beasts.

This is sealing wax palm. Did you ever use sealing wax to finish off a letter? When I was in high school my girl friends and I discovered sealing wax, and began sending each other letters so we could use it. This palm trunk can be this glorious red, and is quite the showy tropical. Doubt it would grow here in the up country, but I may give it a whirl.

This 43er revealed that she had never had a birthday party before. While here in the States it’s hard to imagine, it made me wonder if birthday parties are the norm culturally across the world or not. I recall as a child getting invited to various people’s birthday parties, and throwing my own birthday parties too. We’d have a pinata and break it scattering candy about on the ground for the kids to go and grab. My mom made me a calico cat cake once (but then refused to eat the section with the black frosting). Do other nations not have birthday parties? I’ll have to investigate. In the meantime, here are my wishes for this birthday party honoree for the coming year:

May she swim in the morning, run in the evening, and even try out those weights now and then. May her creative muses inspire her to sketch, draw and paint on a regular basis. And may she discipline herself daily but also reward herself with shoes when she completes the tasks at hand.

Happy Birthday WTS2, I have a few little gifts for you…..

Firstly, you can’t have a birthday without cake

Next, I saw these awfully pretty Jimmy Choos and thought you might be able to find a space in your closet for them

Then I have a little something to keep you occupied until your party guests arrive ;D

In case he somehow proves to be stamina deficient, or can’t actually Tango, this gentleman would love to have the honour
