It was a bizarre day today. I found a treasure this afternoon and just tonight realized the precious treasures I have close at hand.
I ran into a former student of mine. I’ve always wondered what happened to this person and wondered if I made any impact in his future. I know I made some kind of impact when I heard him waving and yelling my name across the parking lot. Four years later. We had a good chat…To know that he pursued college, is not wrapped up in drugs or gang culture which easily could have sucked him in, to know that he is doing well for himself, that he is aware the world is not the size of a peanut, is the best treasure.
Tonight I also returned home from a great birthday party and music bash…I have a surrogate “family” in Santa Fe that took me under their wings four years ago and invited me into their lives when I was at a low point in my life. I know I have this “family” for all time. It hit me tonight—what a beautiful treasure I have been given.
