Duncan McBaine is getting sorted
I felt like I was born with a computer in front of me. I feel almost like i know too much at times. About a dozen languages, operating systems, hardware platforms. So much to learn, so little time. Its like everything else, build a solid foundation for your knowledge and it can grow to great heights.
Elderbear is hibernating ... kickn' back ...
and computer science … that’s an association from the past. Quick! Somebody delete the COBOL tag!!! It burns! It burns!!! Don’t touch it!!! It’s EVIL!!!!
(And CSS and HTML belong here even less, but they’re not evil, so they can stay!)
Learn a good programming language for starters: Python – you can get it for free and even get free books online about how to program and think like a computer scientist!!!
I hear Ruby is pretty cool, also.
Just stay away from Micro$oft proprietary languages like J++, C#, and VisualBasic. They are ultimately as helpful as the One Ring that Frodo tossed into the fire.
I have a degree in CS and work as a programmer. The learning experience never really ends though.. you have to keep learning new technologies and ideas constantly. It’s tiring at times, but I wouldn’t do anything else.
Amy don't waste a day
- learn HTML and design a website
- be able to fix more small problems with my own computer
- learn a programming language
- know the differences between operating systems
Amy don't waste a day
I’m currently working on learning html/ xhtml, and will go on to css next. (I’m not sure if html even counts as programming or CS, but I thought it would be a good place to start.)
