Happy birthday Legerd

For your birthday, a poem by Robert Bly. Prose poem. It takes me instantly to this place, and I can even smell the receded tide.

I scramble down a ravine along walls
eaten away by the rain
seasound
it is low tide
Seagulls trailed by their shadows
stroll among scarfs
of seaweed
on long willful legs
their bodies float like notes never written down

I walk down the sandy valley arms swinging
and I feel excitement
ready to leap into the air
chew the sand

But that other one in me feel
not excited
but exultant
for he hears sounds not coming from the blood
purer, deeper, wilder

Legerd isn’t my birthday twin. My birthday twins are WBadger, Cynonymous, ChristineT and Visage here on 43Things, though there’s lots of other people who share my birthday as well. I know I have a special place in my heart for each of my birthday twins, so when Bedhead2 invited me to join this goal she made for her birthday twin, I immediately jumped on board. There’s just something special about the people who share your special day. Here are my wishes for Legerd for the coming year:

May he actually sit down and make that five year plan, and while he’s at it, schedule time each week to do the things that he wants to do. May he clean his apartment so that when he finds someone who might be the one to love, he can have them over without having to hide the pizza boxes and dirty underwear. And may his creative muses inspire him to write more, whether it be poetry, short stories or that movie script.
