Want to move, going to visit this May
How to move to Utah
How I did it: Well, my mom moved there with me when I was 5 and I lived there until I was about 17. I could not STAND it. If you're retired or looking for a place that is in fact JUST beautiful, go for it.
I've got a very strong opinion on moving to Utah.
Who am I? JUST an opinion from a girl that lived there her whole life.
I
"got used" to living there when I was around 15, but it's JUST that.
"Getting used to it" because you're unable to go elsewhere, or you've
already become so stagnant it's much harder to pack up and leave than
it is to stay.
Lessons & tips: Ehh...Okay. There's a few things:
- Mormonism is EXTREMELY dominant there, duh. But, if you're really open minded, and want to be meet more open minded people, I don't recommend it.
- Raising your kids here is only a good idea depending on where you live; I was left in the dark on crime a lot while growing up. The news never displays much of it either, the biggest topics there are robberies and they're caught within a few hours of the crime being committed.
- However, countering that SAME thing about raising your kids there, it makes a kid quite daft about social skills. If you live in Utah, a trip to the grocery store consists of getting in and out; It's rare even for a, "Hey! How you doin'? Good...! Thanks for asking I'm well." You're doing damn good in Utah if you've gotten that far.
- Speaking of kids, in school, if your child is of an ethnic background, prepare to have some serious isolation unless they're Mexican, or Tongan/Samoan.
- I don't know, but really people, please don't move here on purpose. I know it sounds harsh, but just please take serious consideration. It's GREAT for retirees and people that generally want nothing to do on a daily basis, but PLEASE, take this into consideration!
Resources: Me, my mother, and brother moved from New York to Utah when I was 5, and they STILL live there. I moved here to Alabama when I was 17 and able to get out of there.
I'm...really sorry if this whole thing sounds intensely bitter, but I am. And a lot of the people I grew up with and went to school with said the same things.
