With the Easter holidays here, term 2 of my NQT is officially done and is a pass. One more term to go them I’m all done! I know I’m going to pass, I have to, the headteacher has already offered me a job at the school, it’s just ticking the boxes and getting the paperwork signed. It’s just hassle! 1 month ago

My first NQT lesson observation went really well. She absolutely raved about and told everyone else how absolutely fabulous I was. I was so relieved because I had completely forgotten about it til the day before so phew!

The Head has also made a few comments about how much calmer the kids were. Basically they used to be really wild and she wanted them taming so she is obviously happy too.

I’m absolutely exhausted but overall I think it’s been a pretty good start. 3 months ago

My NQT mentor spoke to me last night about setting up a time for her to come and do a lesson observation. I’m rubbish at observations…I panic! The kid’s behaviour is mostly fine. I mean, I have a challenging class and there are some ‘characters’ but I’m not overly worried about the behaviour which was a big issue for the previous teacher. Now I just need to get planning an awesome writing lesson for her to observe. 4 months ago

This week has been a good week. Basically I have just moved into a Year 1 class and the previous teacher left, mostly because she struggled with their behaviour. I have been warned by many teachers that these kids are hard so I have mostly focused on their behaviour this week and I think I’ve succeeded in calming them down. I’m happy with their behaviour and other people have commented that the kids are a lot calmer.

Now that I have the behaviour sorted it’s time to step up the teaching though. 4 months ago

I spent the first day with my class today. They are incredibly challenging but I think I’m going to be ok. My organisation skills aren’t great though, must improve! Big time! And quick! 4 months ago

I have already completed 1 term of this a couple of years ago but I’ve waited a long time to have the opportunity to complete the final 2 terms. I now have a job for 2 terms so on 6th January I will commence the second term of my NQT. It’s definitely not going to be easy – I have a very hard class in a very hard school with a very strict Head and Ofsted hanging over us but I’m determined I will pass. 4 months ago
