So I quit my good government job and took a pay cut to become an Applications Engineer for a small company based in Scotland. I have worked there since 23 April 2008. The pay is less (but it covers my bills) and the job is demanding at times (a lot of new stuff to learn), but I so far I love it. Its a great opportunity, because I am meeting people from across the globe who are brilliant. I also like the fact that they didn’t just throw me into a cubical and expect me to stay out everyone’s way while I go through Computer Based Training Modules. I actually get to do stuff and though sometimes I don’t understand it, at the end of the day I understand it a little better. Training is completely hands-on and and lasts for three months. By then I may be a whiz. I am already able to utilize a lot of the skills that I learned in school in ways that I didn’t realize they applied.
