HekimaDrummed my shoulders sore

I was kind of on the outskirts of the large drum circle at Eeyore’s Birthday Party here in Austin. It was my first time going there and actually the first time I’ve taken my djembe out in public, so I didn’t really think of getting a shoulder strap to get closer to the action. Still, it was great fun and now my shoulders hurt. I’ll do a better job next time and maybe I’ll even dress up. 2 years ago

Does anyone know of any drum circles happening in Calgary 3 years ago

I did for a camp once, we used home-made materials and made music. I want to do this again out on the streets for real, though! 3 years ago

Drumming circles ROCK. A lot of energy is expended and the room fills with excitement. Very relaxing and spiritual. I have a native drum that has wonderful tones. The drum resonates beautiful vibes all throughout your body. Have some music to drum to and relax with candles and wine. 5 years ago

Mathien_PhilosNever been in a drum circle

but I really want to do it. I like making noise and the sound of drumming can absolutely hypnotize me. I think they have them every month in Calgary, but possibly its BYOD. Must check. It’d be fun. 5 years ago

tygabdjembe here I come!

Well, this summer I got to play a knee type drum while at Cape Cod, sitting on the deck of the cottage, and it really put a bug in my mind to get a drum. So, I got a very nice djembe for my first drum as my holiday present! I do not know much about drums and the different types, but it has a nice tone to it and seems to be perfect. It has a stand. Really, at this point I am just a hack, but I do find it pretty relaxing to attempt to drum, and I would love to join a drum circle maybe in the spring or take some group instruction.

I’ve just recently realized that one thing I’d love to have someday is a room devoted to music, in part due to 43 things and thinking about what I enjoy in my life. I am going to add that as a separate goal I think – sort of a little studio. With various hand drums, an acoustic guitar, keyboard/computer, mixing board. That’d be enough for me to tinker. As a kid I took piano and clarinet, then I started DJ’ing which I did til about 4 yrs ago (house, trance, techno). Now I am an avid music consumer, but it would be great to be a creator again. I would love to learn the guitar but Aaron has one so I’m going to use his whenever he retrieves it from a dusty attic in NH.

AO says this room could also serve as our book room (mini-library), which he’d like to have… I’ve got visions of me hanging out playing a bit amid all the books and it would be most cool… I know I have a lot of hobbies/interests, and I almost feel guilty starting another one like this, but music in one form or another has been a big interest, just left in a more ‘raw’ state. The nice thing is I don’t need anything on any time table (unlike say starting a reef tank), so I can add as time, funds, and interest permits.

Anyway the music room is not a near term goal so it will have to wait a bit before going on the list. 6 years ago
