move to the Pacific Northwest

I’m a misplaced westerner (grew up more in CA than anywhere else) who visited the family house on Vashon Island in Puget Sound as a kid, and my wife is from St. Louis; we’ve both been in Maryland for a while now. She’d never visited the Pacific Northwest until we did a brief vacation in Seattle and Vancouver a few years ago. We’ve set our sights on moving there within the next few years! The picture is us around 6,000’ up Mt. Rainier.

I have done lot’s of research and I still don’t know exactly what city I want to move to. I never been to those cities. I will be visiting Portland June 13th -17th and Seattle June 18th-22nd. If you have been to those cities, let me know your opinions. Thank you.

Coming to Oregon from a landlocked state like Iowa is a great move. They have everything out here – ocean, mountains, valleys, desert. All of which are better than corn as far as the eye can see. I’d like to end up in Portland sometime soon… but if I don’t, I’d be perfectly happy just having made it out here.

I’ve lived in NYC my entire live and need a change of scenery and pace. POrtland, Seattle or Vancouver. which one? the trip this winter will help me decide. hoping to move out there by next spring. Any leads would be so wonderful. Can i get a job in Vancouver as an American? Any Nys moved out there that like one more then the other?

I flew in on Sunday, I started work on Tuesday and my stuff gets here next week.

So far, so good!

I quit my job in Ottawa and took one in Vancouver. Last week I found a place to live in Vancouvers West End, and in two weeks I’ll be at work there. I can soon cross this off my list of things to do.
