go to Pennsic

Something I really want to do, but lets face it, I hardly have time to go to local wars… so this is also getting taken off my list till I have the time to dedicate to it

With all the in-fighting, cliquiness and drama that occurs, I’m just no longer interested in attending at all. I’m not saying all of SCA is like this, but it does seem to be pervasive.

So I cant Wait to get to Pennsic this year! I havnt been in a few years, but will have a great time! My parents basically told me that I am going weather I want to or not, So I get 2 weeks off of work to have a GREAT time there! I cant wait! See you all at the Classic Swimming hole, as that is where I usually am!

Well the first listing of the Pennsic A&S classes came out recently and I just printed out all 87 pages so my husband and I can figure out who is going to want to go to what and when, then negotiate the baby-watching duties back in camp.

The drama with the campsite has passed and finally ceased making me cranky about going and the class list has perked me up, so I’m finally feeling more positive about attending this year. Now to just get around to making that garb…

I enjoy it every year since I started going. There is much to do. Feasting, drinking, dancing, watching my favorite Knight (yay he is a knight now) fighting. Tons of classes of a medieval nature. Getting to see friends met at my first Pennsic those four years ago now. I look forward to it again this year…well sort of..Anyhow, it is great fun.

I’ve pre-registered. I will be camping with House Ashley folks from Thor’s Mountain.

I’m starting to wishy-wash on this. First of all, I hate internal politics and it seems every organization attracts people who just loooove to blow everything out of proportion to its relative importance (- just to feel important/have something to talk about?? I have no idea…) SCA is no different; in fact, I’ve met a huge preponderance of this type there. (Not that there aren’t cool people too – they just seem way outnumbered.) Now there is one person stirring up trouble with our campsite and of course now there are being lines drawn in the sand, etc. etc. I just want to go and have fun, but is it even possible or are there just going to be drama queens everywhere? Is it possible to go to an event like Pennsic and manage to avoid them?

Hoo-boy, well, I took the first big step today, renewed our SCA memberships and pre-registered for Pennsic! I’m nervous but happy. Also stressing as I’ve only got a little under 3 months to make garb for the family. Yikes! :)

I even went last year when I had a broken foot! It’s always a great time and a unique experience.
