While living in NYC is expensive, I really feel that everyone should live there for a while during their lifetimes. I lived there for 2 1/2 years. I had to work 3 jobs and majority of my money went to rent. But I had most weekends free. I had adventures that I will tell my grandkids (I babysat for an agency on a as needed basis and got to babysit Tom Hanks kids on several occasions and was air kissed by Tom himself). My parents poor health brought me back home. I loved NYC but am grateful to be home. I think my experiences taught me more about passion than any love affair ever could- I embrace life and the people in my life more than ever before. Everyone in my little town thinks that I am surely bored (not true- fun is where YOU make it) but NYC really taught me to bloom where I am planted.
