Just as we were leaving Mammoth on December 25, 2012 and driving out of the mountains and leaving the snow behind, I lamented that I forgot that I had wanted to build a snowman during our trip. I had been in the snow many times before but for some reason had never thought to build a snowman until now. Andrew pointed out that there was still a lot of snow on top of the car and that when we stopped in Bishop I could use that to make a snowman. When we got to Bishop there was no snow on the ground and the temperature was above freezing, but in the parking lot of Bishop City Park I scrounged around for materials for the mini snowman I would make out of the slush remaining on top of my car. I managed to find a couple of rocks for eyes and pulled some sticks from a shrub for arms (see the photo). He lasted a few miles as we drove down the highway before breaking apart and disintegrating… 5 months ago

For a short while last evening we had something resembling snow come down for the first time this season. It melted immediately upon hitting the ground. Though everyone around me is dreading the first snowfall this year, I’m looking forward to it. I want to build my snowman! 7 months ago
