I like a Perfect martini at a 4-1 ratio: 2.5 oz gin, .25 oz sweet vermouth, .25 oz dry vermouth – Churchill fans can keep their chilled gin with an olive in it, thank you very much. Bombay Sapphire is my brand of gin. Drink it fairly fast (take big sips) and hold it by the stem to make sure the drink doesn’t get too warm (you’ll know when it’s too damn warm because the drink stops tasting good – that’s when you pull out the olive and eat it to clear your palate). If you make one yourself, be sure to stir it gently for at least twenty seconds in plenty of ice: it dilutes the drink a bit, yeah, but you want to soften the bite of the alcohol.
Vodka Martinis are a sin against the drink, IMO: you’re taking a drink that’s built off of a gentle interplay of subtle flavors and replacing it with the alcoholic equivalent of distilled water. Don’t even get me started on the chocolate and sour apple flavored cocktails people call “martinis” because they’re served in a cocktail glass.

Not in a Sarah Jessica Parker way, but in a James Bond way.

I have enjoyed Tanq & Tonic, Tanq & Roses and especially liked Bombay Sapphire & Tonic, so it wasn’t like I didn’t know that gin was an “acquired” taste.
I ordered a Sapphire martini tonight and only had two sips. The second was to make sure it tasted the same without the taste of food still in my mouth.
I’ll just say the best part of the martini was the olive…

Melissa B. is a "Newness-seeking Self-improving Tree Hugger" . . . or is she? :)
I didn’t care for either the standard vodka or gin martinis I tried. I tried a chocolate martini and thought that was good, though.

I’ve come to love Martini! When I first tried it I thought they were gross, but now I actually like them a lot :) Cheap ‘n easy on the hangover, sounds good to me :)

Bartenders If their good know their craft. So if you like sweet drinks he can recomend a good martini. I prefer chocolate and green apple martini’s. I don’t like anything dry…not my style.
