Not happening. 21 months ago

I’ll be happy for 100 words every week.

I think I'll try this for another a month 2 years ago

It was weird to write in short bursts, but I think I like it. It kept me thinking about the next day for hours.

I don't want to 2 years ago

I am pretty sure I don’t want to do this. So I won’t. Not now. I would rather write more about my desires on 43things. And if I am to write every day on a 100 words it would definetly be better to have an idea of what I want to write.

So I started 5/1/07 2 years ago

at 100words.com and it seems like an interesting way to write. I’ll do it for one batch (month) and then decide whether to do it again or not.

I started today! 2 years ago

May is gonna be my first 100 words month! Yuiiippeeee

100 words a day in March (part three) 2 years ago

I have reached my 2,000 words this month, no problem (see my previous posts). The more I wrote every day, the easier it became. I now think it will be hard for me NOT to write most days, although I still think I’ll need some discipline as I’m very easily distracted.

So my goal this March has been a resounding success. I wrote 100 words most days, I tried not to word count and be comfortable with ball-park estimating. And the fact is I have written more in one month than I have done for years. 2,000 words in total. Considering how busy I’ve been, this is a mega achievement.

I have enjoyed the liberation of allowing myself just to write down the bones of the story. I have ended up with a nearly completed draft of a story that needs a lot of revision, but I’d rather have a finished average story than a brillian unfinished one. It has been scary allowing myself to write without editing as I go along. My internal editor is safely under lock and key until I get to the editing phase.

So this month has been a revelation. I am pleased with my story so far… so this goal is finished.

100 words a day in March (part two) 2 years ago

So my task was…
- 100 words a day (writing a short story) amid a very busy lifestyle.
- do not word-count, estimates will do.
- do not beat myself up if I miss my target.
- don’t expect to achieve this every day.
- aim for 2,000 words by the end of March.

I have succeeded most days so far. I guess I’ve written 800 words since the beginning of March. These guidelines have been very freeing, and I have written more this month than I have for, well, months.

It has been quite pleasurable just writing down the story and not being afraid to write badly or use cliches. Your first draft is not the edit phase; it’s just getting the story down, so at least you end up with a completed draft no matter how bad it is. The editing process will kill off the bad bits; but that can wait until I have the story down.

The other day, my 100 words really gelled and I got a tingle up my spine. So far, so good. I’ll update in another ten days or so.

100 words a day in March (part one) 2 years ago

My job demands a lot of time, and I juggle many things in my spare time including radio presenting, editing websites and running events.

I am working on a short story (to do with castles), and I have been frustrated at the lack of time I have spent actually getting words onto paper. A bit of planning and plot tweaking is fine, but it isn’t getting the story written.

So I have vowed I will write 100 words a day in March. It isn’t much, but a small, achievable target may mean I actually get something on paper.

The important thing is I am NOT going to word-count and I am NOT going to beat myself up if, say, I’ve only written 96 words. Also I don’t expect to achieve this every day, and I’m not going to beat myself up about that either.

it’s the small steps forward that counts, and if I at least have 2,000 words by the end of the month, then that’s more than I’ve done for a long time!

Silly Drowa daring to fully love

mixed reviews on this... 2 years ago

I found it frustrating to count the 100 words—even when my wordprocessor will do it for me, I didn’t like the artificiallity of trying to write a particular # of words…

I did it for 2 months, & don’t think this is the way I want to motivate myself to write. I’m glad I tried it, & am going to try other strategies to get myself to write regularly…

Good luck ot all!
