live in a monastery/convent

I try on my own to go deeper with God, but find too many things distracting. I’d like to have a year to try to live in the moment, give myself more fully to Him.

this is a bad reason to want to do this but ever since i saw Sister Act i’ve wanted to live in a convent. it fascinates me and i’ve hear a lot of good things about it.

I live in a convent in SoCal. Here I pay about $800 less a month than I would to live in a studio apartment. And it includes meals. Saving this much money allows me to visit home, travel, and do fun things I wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to do (scuba!). It’s basically like living in a dorm – I’m hardly ever there. I can come and go when I please at any hour. The people I live with are mostly lay people – the sisters are always off being busy. I only really see them at meals. And everyone is very friendly. I moved here from Ohio, so it was great to have an established community around me.

I only planned on staying the minimum amount of time – 3 months, but I’m already on month four and not looking elsewhere. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to make a big move and doesn’t mind living simply.

I want to write and sing about things that truly matter, oh may that always be my desire.
