i am 14 nearly 15 and really want to start learning ballet however i feel like i will be put in a class with lots of kids that will be better than me and i will stick out. i also dont know if i can learn it as i learn tae kwon do and i dont think the to go hand in hand.
hmmm what to do :S
How to learn ballet
How I did it: i dont know. maybe this isn't for me. maybe it's too late in life, maybe it was stupid, going from an energetic style like irish, to something as basic and fiddly and slow as ballet.
i love ballet. i still do.
last week as a treat she taught us a higher level dance and i loved that.
but i cant get anything right. im not blaming anyone but myself, i know its my fault. but, im not enjoying it, i just wish i could go back to irish. i feel like my parents are wasting their money.
my turnout is shocking, im not flexible enough, i dont practice enough, i cant remember the dances because they arent dances, its so far just at the barm pointing my feet. i dont have the money to dance next year, i dont even have ballet shoes. but i love ballet, and i loved doing the harder work, i just cant motivate myself to work hard when it will never lead to what i want to do.
i just want to go back to irish, its killing me watching my friends continue, same as its oging to kill me watching the friend i take ballet with continue on with it, she's going on pointe and taking exams next year, and i'm going to left behind again.
its just so upsetting, and frustrating, i just want to move, and dance, and not stand still moving one leg for half an hour, then be told im doing it wrong.

Ruzanna Kamal : hello errands day!
I’ve always thought it’s a beautiful form of dance. So, I’m hoping I’ll get the time some time soon to take this up at YMCA. :)
While dancing around my room today, I realized that I still had remarkable flexibility despite my lack of exercise and stretching. This realization then lead to sadness… nay, a slight regret for not having yet fulfilled my life long dream of dancing ballet- pointe specifically. I know what most people are probably thinking as they read this, “a twenty year old premed with not even a days worth of formal dance training learn pointe?”(naturally followed by much laughter), but I am certain that it is possible, and that eventually I will be the proud owner and ballerina of these…
i love this dance but i can’t do it and i decide to learn it
I started in January and I am in love with Ballet!! I want to keep on learning and improving.
Still haven’t got round to this bribing business… still don’t think she’ll teach me either 15 months on!
well, i searched online “learn ballet”, and found a good page (i think)from howtodothings.com with a step by step of the five basic positions, demi plié, and grand plié. what muscles to clench, etc. i wish it had pictures to go with it, but i’ll manage. i know it’s best to learn from a live instructor, but i haven’t the money or method of transport to do so. so i’ll have to make do with this.
i don’t really feel the need to become a professional dancer or anything like that, i just want to learn for the health benefits, to improve my grace and posture, and just because i want to, damnit!
now, the key is to do it and keep to it.
plus those teal en point ballet slippers i hope to win on ebay should be put to use…
I’ve been attending ballet lessons for about a month now.
I don’t think this goal will ever really be considered completed until i either become a teacher or someone tells me there is nothing left to learn.
I went to a relaxed local studio (one that didn’t require one of those scary, unforgiving leotards) and took my first lesson.
It was fantastic.
I was absolutely laughably horrendous, but it felt so good to be trying. Many of the students in my adult beginners class are people that took ballet as a child and are getting back now. They are not really beginners. They were very encouraging.
I can’t wait to go back!
