Once my roomie and I get back from the US we’re saving to go live in Europe for a year or so .. Maybe I can knock this over then if I don’t get nabbed or killed ??
How I did it: I tested it out for 1 little over a week first to see if I could handle it (don't cheat!).
Finding a place to park is the hardest part. Park late at night and leave early morning. Don't to anything to attract attention. Don't park in the same place over and over.
I kept busy by working, enjoying the outdoors, going to the gym, and staying social.
I kept the van mostly as just a place to sleep.
I charged the phone/laptop at places like Panera.
Lessons & tips: Know the area you are going to be parking/living in well enough. Go with you gut. The hardest part is finding a place to sleep at night. I am definitely not nocturnal, but if you are, embrace that.
Resources: a gym membership. I liked planet fitness because it was open 24 hours on most days. It's a nice place to shower and stay active.

survive on my own. see the world… and live in my van. This is something I can’t explain I just want… possibly need.
I basically want to be free from the financial responsibly of “having” to make rent every month. As for showering I’m going to use a gym. I have a job and a good one at that. But “Having” to do something automatically diminishes your freedom and my freedom is really valuable. to me. So I am on a mission to be free.
So what is the worst thing that can happen to me if I loose my job. I’ll still have shelter.
Also, to make it easier and more practical they have these new generators that are coming out that you can use indoors. late 2007.

When I was down in Florida this last fall working at a fruit/veggie stand and living on the beach most of the time, I met a couple of guys that had been traveling in their van for about a year. We started hanging out pretty regularly, then we were both leaving town about the same time, so they invited me along. It was a blast. They had bunks set up for them, and I was given the tiny, tiny spot on the floor, and would lay with my feet up on the seat.
As we went up north through the Carolinas, Maryland, and eventually into New York it was soooo cold (it was November) so showers weren’t top priority, but thankfully we had lots of good couches to surf along the way, if for no reason other than to catch a shower.
the pic is of my two friends and the van, btw
I lived in my van for 4 months in Melbourne in 2006. It was cool. I had a job and everything. The worst thing is showering… But you can always get free cold showers by the beach. Not so fun in July!
