I bought a decent pair of hiking boots for a fair price. It is definately nice to have a pair of waterproof boots for hiking in the Rockies, but they are heavy. I think next I will be a pair of hiking sandles for easy day trips.

I would never go backpacking again without a pair of ASolos. I looove them. Perfect amount of support, cushioning, and weather protection. Make sure to actually get fitted by a knowledgable store person, and walk around the store in them (a lot). Walk up and down steps if possible, and if you plan on backpacking, ask for a weighted pack to carry around the store while walking around in them. Buy the pair with the best combination of fit, features, and weight, but don’t consider the cost unless you have to.
I’ve joined a hiking club and our first walk is on the 14th. I need good boots for this year.
