This goal has always seemed natural and logical for me to attempt. It combines a lot of things I love: astronomy, physics, optics and ‘Do It Yourself’ projects. I hope to live in a more remote location one day with little to no light pollution, so having a telescope there would be ideal. I’m also interested in learning a lot more about astronomy and telescopes, so it seems one of the best way to learn more is to build a telescope. This will be good practice and provide a lot more background knowledge for when I eventually purchase a larger more expensive telescope too.
How to build a telescope
How I did it: I used instructions from a photo on flickr. The end product is very impressive looking. I found it on this page http://www.flickr.com/photos/monopolar/163040396/ and bought some of the products off of ebay. Very satisfying in the end.
Lessons & tips: Search Google.

I just saw the moon last night through my NEW homemade 8-inch Dob… it REALLY DOES have craters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it is. My paper Hubble Telescope looking at the immensity of the sky…
I loved doing this project, and this will be my inspiration to get a real one!

Well, a paper telescope that is ;)
I was asked to be a ‘beta tester’ for their paper model. So I’m up for the task.
I actually already completed it today, but I’ve still a few things to tweak. Here’s the before photo:
And check out my hibiscus drink to keep me refreshed while building the model!

And here’s a little teaser of the completed model:
I read much about telescope making in the last few month. Now I decided for a 10 inch dobsonian telescope!
I have all of the parts to build this scope, and I have even had the parts cut out by a freind based on the 3D model. I am just waiting until I have the space to put it together.
I went ahead and put this on my list, but its definitely going to have to wait. At least until after I move. I do really want to do this though.
I forgot, every now and than i blog about my goal to build my own telescope in my astronomy blog: Das wahre Gesichtsfeld
