work on a film set

I’ve had to turn down one unpaid AFI gig and one paid executive assistant referral from AppleOne Staffing, in order to focus on my screenplay. I have a deadline – the Pitchfest is the 21st-22nd, and then the Rush concert on the 23rd. And I have a friend (I haven’t seen any friends in almost 2 months!) visiting over that weekend as well.

And I have been asked in vague terms on what may or may not be a date with someone I met at the shoot yesterday. I agreed in principle, via email. He has my phone number. Better if it’s not a date; he’s a good contact.

Meanwhile I’m still putting the résumé out there, trying to line up work for when I’m available.

I was at my favorite shopping center, just having seen Harry Potter, when I wandered on to a small AFI film shoot. I happened to be wearing a T-shirt that had the name of my film school on it, and – long story short – I made a few contacts. AFI needs volunteers for more projects this summer, and some of the crew is professional. As in, the producer on this shoot was a producer on West Wing. Huzzah!

I also got a (non-paying) job on an indie film this Saturday. I hope I’m on a roll.

So glad Mercury Retrograde is over, for now.

One of my Career Development advisors has a lead for me – an excellent job title on a major production. Fingers crossed!
