• Guide is 672 pages : around 30 hours of reading and reviewing.
• Total cost to recup : $1000.00 in time, $250.00 in outlay—should obtain around 30 hours of contracting that I would not otherwise get.

I found my job easier after doing the certification. There were a number of things I never bothered to learn, even though people come to me with java questions in my company, until I passed the certification, there were plenty of things that I would only just look up, or I just did incorrectly. I recommend this for anyone who’s serious about programming in java. Though I don’t recommend this if all you want to do is get a job. Employers are much more interested in your experience. Join an open source project instead, that will have more weight with an employer. Do the certification to BE a better programmer. JavaRanch.com is a great way to get prepared.
