At my cousin’s wedding reception, all of her and husband’s friends swing danced (east coast), and they were so good! Even while just watching them, I had such a great time. There’s got to be a summer class offered around here.

Swing is the coolest music I know. So many modern music genres owe their roots to this jumpin’, jivin’, hep and tight style. It’d be a thrill to go to a psychobilly show and go ape with someone else who knows how to dance :]

Learning to Dance ( Swing dance, Salsa, etc) 3 months ago

Basically you shop around for studios in your area, (I am lucky ..cuz i live in Manhattan)...find a studio that offers group lessions, join a beginners class swing class and off you go…Most classes have followers(women) and leaders(men) who attend so you always have a practice partner to dance with. The studio then usually has a monthly dance to attend where you get out on the floor and start practicing your moves. Patience….. this takes a few years to reach a confident level to walk on the floor. There are 2 types of swing though: East Coast (Lindy) which is music from the big band days..a faster beat, then West Coast Swing which is bluesy, sultry and much, much sexier… I happen to like the music much more…But be warned: West Coast is probably one of the hardest dances to learn but once you see it perfomed you’ll be hooked..

After I get paid again (2/13), I want to sign up for evening classes at the dance studio near my home. I think this would be fun; I think it’d be a great way to increase my physical activity level; and I think it’d provide an incentive to reduce the amount of extra time I “donate” to my employer by working 11+ hours every day.

    Swing swing! 6 months ago

I dance Swing a little bit, but I’m certainly no pro! I would love to learn more Swing dance moves and become more active in the dancing community where I live.

this coming weekend 9 months ago

I need to learn how to swing dance by this coming weekend. Or at least well enough to pass anyway. I’m going to the dance for WWII weekend in Gettysburg so I really should hurry up and practice. Its so difficult for me to get the hang of though!

not so much 10 months ago

The classes I took were fun but I failed to finish them. I found it hard to learn how to dance to a dance that required so much from the lead. Which made it incredibly difficult when the leads didn’t do what they were supposed to. Although they said in the class that you should never learn to dance with one person I think it really would be ideal to take this class with a partner. Someone you could feel comfortable and critiquing also someone to practice with at home. I would definitely love to try this again but only with a partner.
