Veronika decides to die 2 months ago

Weird thing is that I used to read Paulo Coelho when I was about eleven, twelve years old… and never read this specific book. Since the movie based on the novel has been released and I saw the treiler, I knew I had to see it. Hey, I’m a curious person! Why not read the book as well? That’s what I did. Everything in one day. Truth to be told? The movie is way better than the novel. I mean, it’s like his idea (wich was great, I’ll give him that) was changed in everything I would have changed in the book. You know when you read something and you just feel the general idea is good but could be so much better if written in another way, with some changes here and there? Here it is a classical example.

Veronika decides to die; Paulo Coelho.

Interview With The Vampire 4 months ago

First of all: I always loved vampires. Yesterday I barely woke up with the sound of the doorbell and I recieved the first book of the Vampire Chronicles: Interview With The Vampire. I started my reading, eager. I’m not finished – not yet – wich is delicious ‘cause I’ll enjoy every single page.

Interview With The Vampire; Anne Rice.

(Hopefully...) Books for the Month! 13 months ago

The Sandman: Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman:
—Oddly enough, I’ve read all 2000+ pages of the Sandman and I don’t own any of them! I also have this weird urge now to collect… comic books. Not manga. Comic books. Not the Superman/Spiderman kind. Eclectic comic books. Unfortunately, when I ran to get it from the bookstore, they were fresh out. GAH. Hopefully, I can catch one on the shelf before September ends.

Also on the to-do book list…
The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath
—Because the summary at the back caught my attention. And I can’t believe I didn’t read anything by hers yet.

Renamed the goal... 14 months ago

Because “read more books” sounded a bit vague.

I decided randomly today that I might just start getting into a habit of collecting books instead. Let’s face it, a full bookcase looks impressive. To me, at least! And once I get into that habit, I could just check this off… Maybe a year of collecting two books a month. Barnes and Noble has this nice shelf of cheap literary classics section, after all and it’s just right across the street from my school! So, every month, I’ll probably get one classic book and one on modern fiction or a history book or graphic novel.

But this is all depending on my budget anyways… I have to start paying for gas soon! URGH.

Books of the month for September?
“Thud” by Terry Pratchett and I’m currently re-reading “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte.

I want to get a copy of “Slapstick” by Kurt Vonnegut and maybe “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo. :)

Get lots of books. Read them. It’s sad that I’ll never be able to read all the books out there and learn all there is to be learned, but with enough money and time, this is definitely a goal I have.

Expand in natural history and computers 3 years ago

Wombat (wombat43), John, seeks to expand collection on natural history and archaeology and prehistory and fossil history etc. – for New South Wales (Australia) in particular .. but also in general. And swap or sell off books in business and social sciences (psychology, sociology, economics, accounting, etc.). Ditto for computer books and software, exchange on topics no longer dealt with for topics more of my current practice etc. Please contact me at World Wide Wombats if interested more about knowing what is swappable and how (john.mail “at” ozemail.com.au).

At least 1,000 ... 3 years ago

Since buying books doesn’t take as much time as reading them, this goal only depends on how much money I have… So, it might take years until I have at least 1,000 books…
