Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Maggie FriedrichsPlanning the 4th and all the things that go with it

We will be going to the parade in the morning and the fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 at night. I would like to have small cookout here with my daughters and granddaughter. I could include my two nieces and their father is if they would like to come. Hamburgers and hotdogs, a couple of salads, watermelon, and corn on the cob. Shouldn’t cost too much. We have our new small cooler to take to the parade. I have to dig out the wagon. I want to start taking the wagon with us to the parades. We can put the cooler, chairs and other stuff in there. We love going to the parades. 2 years ago

Maggie FriedrichsPlanning a trip to Navy Pier, boat ride and dinner

I am hoping to get both my daughters and my granddaughter to go on one of the boat rides on Lake Michigan. They have dinner and cruising packages available. Currently our day trips are going to be to the local parks and the swimming pools. We have so many new parks in the city, and many of them are in the shade. I would like to visit all of the city parks this summer with my granddaughter. We can plan several trips to the Art Institute, Field Museum, Science and Industry Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Shedd Aquarium. We love riding the train in early and making a whole day of it when we go to Chicago. I am also planning a trip to St Louis. Right now though, it is so hot and Brooklynn really enjoys going to the pool. 2 years ago

Maggie FriedrichsMooseheart City

We went to Mooseheart City right before Easter. They had a big Easter Egg hunt and other activities for the children. I thought they did a great job. Brooklynn was excited for the Easter Egg hunt, but since she is not very aggressive she did not get much candy or many eggs. Brooklynn was not disappointed though. She really doesn’t like candy that much, and she was just happy to be outside with all of the other kids. Brooklynn ended up giving the two eggs she found and the candy to two of our friends kids. They had come late and didn’t get any eggs. Brooklynn just handed over her eggs and candy without a second thought. I am proud of her. 2 years ago

Maggie FriedrichsTrip to Texas....

We are planning a trip to Texas in June. I am really looking forward to going to Texas. My niece, her son Josh, my two daughters Melissa and Samantha, my granddaughter Brooklynn, and myself will be traveling in my van to Texas. We are going to visit my husbands brother and his lovely wife. They are such good people and a lot of fun to be around. It should be a good time. Lot to plan, money to save, and arrangements to make. 2 years ago
