i spent some time in spain and picked up enough to get by, as long as it sounded and looked enough like italian. now i am home in northeast pennsylvania and – surprise! – everyone on my block is better than me because they can speak both english and spanish and i can’t. i also got a job with the city, working with every walk of life and culture day in and day out, and several times a week spanish would come in handy. but i’ve never taken a spanish class. what to do?

Still not fluent, but I’m better at it. I knew enough to keep up a decent conversation with my customers at my job. The class I was taking already ended and I passed with an A. I have no plans to take a class anytime soon, but I’ll keep practicing the language when I can.

So I’m already a month into my Spanish class and I’m surprised at how much I remember from high school. I’ve actually been using Spanish when I can. Translating advertisements, menus, and sometimes conversations. I don’t think I can handle a one on one conversation in Spanish yet. I am better at Spanglish if that counts though.

Trying to relearn Spanish this semester by taking a class. Took three years of it in high school and vaguely remember most of what I learned. I’ve been told the best way to learn a language is to immerse oneself into the culture. The best I can do right now are telenovelas(I think they’re funny to watch), Spanish radio, and visiting local Latino restaurants instead of restaurant chains(Local places taste better and are cheaper anyways). Hopefully this helps. Basically this goal is to learn Spanish and actually use it.

I’m not fluent
but I have studied in Spain for 5 weeks…and i think that’s pretty good after college classes and high school classes
