kmom2468 is knee deep in the hooah!
And DVD backups for those photos that I could never replace.
Jenny is working.
Of course, the same day I was going to turn in my lab, my laptop failed on me and gave me BSOD due to hard drive hardware errors. I recovered most of it with my magical boot cd, but still I’ve spent a day or two getting my dev environment in working order.
Must. Backup. My Data. More. Often.
MORE OFTEN!! Gaah.
I have same problem, in fact this cant be automated in my case because i burn backups on DVD-RW or at least copy small backups to USB Drive.
Backup on the same hard drive or another one does not seem very useful because in case they will fail i will lose all my data.
I scheduled to make backup once a month about year ago, but still not doing it that often, i also have calendar on the wall near my pc, i think i going to write in right on calendar to not forget about it.
Edit: Wow so simple solution and it works, i think i am set now, also having notebook and writing it there helps too.

I do this. I really do. The problem is that I only do it whenever I remember doing it, it is a manual process. Today I am going to create an automatic backup and thus I can stop worrying about losing my photos.

I created a backup strategy for my wordpress blog, it’s not a very good one, and I need to find a permanent and automatic solution (cron).

the Foldershare thing was awesome….now, I have my laptop and my desktop synced…and I can just back up the data to my external hard drive and voila…I have a great routine for keeping my data safe!
Coolness….will begin the backup procedure over Spring Break – purging what’s on the external and just backing up the data on the desktop synced hard drive….

I found a solution. I am using a program called Foldershare to sync up my files between my laptop and desktop. Once they are maintained each month during the sync, then I will back it all up to an 80 gig external hard drive. Hopefully, this system will be foolproof so I won’t lose data (although I have been very very luck so far). I feel sooooo enslaved to my computer. As if I lost everything, I would be like…devastated…I don’t like having that feeling of loss of control! Ouchiwawa!
dirgon needs to start updating his 43Things entries more often.
I now have my backups automated. I use Backup 3.0 with my Mac and have it set to automatically backup my RAW photos every week. It currently does it on an incremental basis.
Just remember… there are two kinds of computer users; those who have lost data and those who will.

My most recent backup saved me a lot of work last night. Four weeks ago, I backed up all my photos as mentioned in my last post. I installed a new piece of software last night that has some better options for creating web photo albums. Unfortunately, when I deleted this software, I also deleted my iPhoto library by mistake. I just about had a stroke.
I had some new photos in the iPhoto library, but luckily, they are still on my drive with the original RAW files. I moved a lot of those over. After a little bit of cleanup, things will be back to where they were before the screwup.
