How to buy a motorbike
How I did it: Buying a motorcycle, in retrospect, was the easiest part of the the equation. Convincing all my loved ones that I wasn't going to kill myself and that bikes are dangerous but I bought all the necessary safety equipment and I swear i won't speed except on the freeway after we have a blue and i need to get it out of my system and yes i bought it dirt cheap because i totally anticipated spending 3 g's just fixing up the gearbox and i need to sell the first bike now to fix the other one...
Lessons & tips: Buy a piece of shit first bike that doesn't go fast. You will crash it ( 3 times in one year ) and if you are crashing a slow POS bike it doesn't hurt as much (physically and financially)

I love the thrill of riding on a bike. Its a shame they are so dangerous. But i guess if you only rode it sometimes, it wouldnt be dangerous all the time…
I got my learner licence a few weeks ago. I borrowed a friend’s scooter over the weekend to get the hang of riding on two wheels in heavy traffic – and I loved it. I’m aiming to get a ‘real’ bike in a couple of months.. I’m thinking either a Honda CBF250 or a Yamaha FZX250 Zeal. I’m nervous!
God, i love those Kawasaki Ninja, been saving up money to buy a used one on craigslist for months. Hopefully will get it by the end of this year.
Finally, spent £2500 on a near mint 2004 Yamaha FZ6. Definitely a lot of bike, and crashing it a week later taught me what I needed to learn. So now, totally bankrupting myself reparing it back to new for £200, I have a new respect for biking that no reading of horror stories can give you. It’s a fucking beautiful bike, a tiny bit stupid to start on a 600cc, but I’m finally getting to eye level with it now. A quater-ton bike, 140mph, takes boxes, panniers and passengers comfortably, it has a lot to offer and I greatly recommend it. Boguht it from a brilliant guy on ebay. Want any advice, give me a shout, I don’t use this site as much as I should. There’s some great biking forums out there, the biking community is so friendly and generally amazingly generous and helpful. I use www.bcforums.com

The BMF Show is on 19/20 May. I’m taking the family, and will stock up on: helmet, gloves, boots. I still have the leathers and waterproofs. I might look out for an all-in-one though, as it will be bike-commuting if I do get to move house soon :-)
The BMF is a great day out. Looking forward to it hugely.
But I managed to ride the 160 miles to get the bike home last night without event.
Weather turned a bit nasty wet/cold and the temperature plummeted after sunset, but stopping at every other services for a hot chocolate and enough time to warm back up again – seemed to work out alright.
Worst bit was the lid that I’d borrowed was pretty bad for fogging up – and the visor didn’t bead off the water, so visibility was poor at times. Even so, I enjoyed the ride and it’s great to be on two wheels once more!
Looking forward to doing some rideouts with some of the locals now. (I’ve bought a new lid and leathers today… that hurt the wallet a little)
