dammit! 4 months ago

I haven’t used chapstick in about a week. My top lip is pretty good now. Just as my bottom lip was beginning to heal a little bit, but then I got a goddamn cold sore! So now my lip is destroyed because it got so dry from the cold sore medication so it’s raw and peeling and I still have the cold sore! Arrgfhdj! But I will not give up!

god its difficult! 4 months ago

This is my 2nd try and I’m determined to stop! I’ve been using it since 5th grade and I’ve had it! I’m in college now so I think it’s going to take a while to break this, but I will do it. The 1st day is pain. After that it’s just torture. Not licking my lips is a problem now too, since my lips are so chapped I can’t open my mouth normally. Curse you chapstick!!!

I’ve been addicted to Softlips for awhile now. If I don’t take it with me somewhere, my lips get really chapped & I’ll be in such pain. It doesn’t matter what time of year, I’m dependent on that shii-yat.
My friends all definitely agree with me that I’m addicted.

Q: If “Chapstick Addiction” is really a myth, why do my lips severely chap if I use a different product?

I have a stockpile of different lip balm products on my dresser and frequently use Vaseline at night, as well as Kiehls. My lips chap if they do not get a dose of the Chapstick brand balm.

Dammit Wyeth, I need to break the bond with your evil product once and for all!

Down with the chapstick!! 17 months ago

ok coco butter is better for you and sells at Walgreens for only a dollar. It was my savior while taking Acutane and I’ve used it ever since.

I gave up 2 years ago

I used the vaseline method for about a week…my lips were slightly chapped b/c I was putting it on less than chapstick…and then I had a shower to go to and I just didn’t want to bring my tub of vaseline, so back to the chapstick for now.

Licking 2 years ago

Another tip I just read about and it seems to make sense to me. When trying to quit using chapstick – or even while you’re still using it…don’t lick your lips. This makes your lips chapped.

When I tried to quit a while back and my lips got extremely chapped it was probably because I was sneaking licks to try to moisturize them.

I bought a tiny container of vaseline yesterday – I left all my tubes of chapstick at home. I’m trying hard to not lick my lips, I’m drinking lots of water, and applying the vaseline only when I absolutely need it – and this is because I just can’t go through having those chapped lips again like last time I tried to quit. I feel like I should be able to stop using chapstick so much without suffering through weeks of extremely chapped lips.

Chapstick use 2 years ago

A stick of chapstick probably lasts me about a month. I put it on in the morning, after I eat or drink anything and numerous other times through out the day.

I tried about a year ago to use it less. I decided on reducing to three times a day – morning, afternoon and night. After only 2 days my lips were completely chapped – red, dry skin, etc. It was disgusting. It felt awful and I looked bad. I was starting a new job at Starbucks and I felt like I couldn’t go in looking like that if I could avoid it, so I started using it again. It took about a week for them to get back to normal.

That scared me from trying again. Once your lips are chapped like that I just wonder if they are ever going to get better without using chapstick? Will they just keep getting more and more chapped?

I can’t figure out a better way to decrease usage. A friend recommended to stop using chapstick and to instead use vaseline – maybe to get rid of the addiction to the tube first? I suppose its worth trying.

The reason I want to stop my addiction to chapstick is because I feel dependent on it. If I’m going somewhere for the day – or even for a few hours I feel like I have to grab my chapstick, I have to have a pocket or purse to put it in – that feels wrong. I’d like to be more free than that.

I need help 2 years ago

I really want to kick this chapstick addiction, but I know it’s going to be harder than ever. If I even stop using chapstick for a few hours, my lips get really bad and I develop rashes around my lips. I’m dependent on this stuff. Does anyone have any advice? I’m up to a stick and a half a week :[
