After not having watched TV for 3+ years, I just got a free 27” Panasonic TV from a coworker (thank you, Sir).
After cleaning it, I’m setting it up. Autoprogramming flooded me with channels up to 76… including the annoying assortment of channels in languages I don’t understand.
Fortunately [GRIN], the TV lets me DELETE channels! I have ERASEDchannel 14 , KDTV, “the Bay Area’s first exclusively Spanish-language TV station”. Begone.
Yes, I did feel a perverse pleasure getting rid of that channel.
For a sanity check, I’ve been exposing myself to channel 18, KSTS, another Spanish channel (“Telemundo”, whatever that is), for the last 20 minutes. The show right now is some inanity about astrology (“12 Corazones”).
Hearing the language has simply been annoying. Since I speak a Latin language natively, I can also understand some of the content: soap show mixed with pseudoscience and subculture and sprinkled with Latina chicas eye candy (not much against that ;-). I’ve also listened to a Chinese channel for 10 minutes. The language sounds OK, but I don’t understand anything, so why waste a few seconds every time I might channel surf, just to skip over this channel?
I cannot WAIT to CLEAR off my TV all non-English and junk channels. All my respect for your language, but if it carries crap culture, I have as low a tolerance for it as I have for English pop culture: ZERO. If it carries the finest culture or information, but I don’t understand the language, sorry. Do you watch channels you don’t understand? Maybe. I don’t have time for that.
