I changed my first and last name when I got married, so I definitely need a new passport.
but we have no current travel plans, and we’re trying to make a baby, so I think I’ll wait and see if we do. That way, I only have to deal with the passport agency once! 10 months ago
How I did it: My passport expired in May 2012, and I knew that I would need a new one at some point. When I realised I was only a month away from flying to London with my mum and brother, it was time for action! The worst part, as always, was getting the passport pictures done. (I look awful in mine - again.) Other than that, it was a lot of queuing at the police office - first to drop the application off and then, a week later, to pick the passport up. Today, after 45 minutes of queuing at the local police station, I left my passport application. It should be ready in about a week! I’m going to London with my mother and little brother in the end of this month, so I was sort of forced to do this goal… and that’s good! 14 months ago
How I did it: I recently changed my name by deed poll and so I needed to get a new passport. I didn't want to wait the eight weeks or so it takes to get one if you apply by post and because it was a name change I wanted to make sure there were not any problems so I phoned up to make an appointment (to do it fast-track)
I had to get a train to london (2 hours away!) and take my application form and supporting documents (Deed poll) to the passport office. A lady checked them over, filled in a form and sent me to the cashier. It cost £112, about £40 more than normal but I needed it back quickly and it was guaranteed to be delivered within a week.
I went on Friday and it arrived today (Tuesday)
It is very strange having a passport with your photo in it but with a different name. Read how I did it… 2 years ago
