This has been on the shelf for a while. I’ve had a couple different people tell me they found this to be his creepiest/scariest/most disquieting work.I assume this means it’s also one of his better books. We’ll see if it affects me as much as it has some others!

I finished Different Seasons (I liked “The Breathing Method” best), Christine (which I felt was a slow-starter, got better in the middle, but never seemed to have a clear picture of WHAT the evil was – was it the car, or her previous owner? Did Christine corrupt him, or did he infuse the car with his hate? It didn’t seem to ever make up its mind), Pet Sematary (one of my favorites), Skeleton Crew (if you’ve never seen the movie of The Mist, go out and get it – and watch it in black and white; it’s great), The Talisman (which I thought was also a little slow at the beginning, but really picked up, and I ended up thoroughly enjoying it), and Thinner (which was pretty good, but another that seemed to cover the same ground multiple times in the beginning, and so took a while for the story to take off).
I’m currently reading It (for the second time).

Not quite sure about it, but my husband says to stick with the series through book 2 at least, before I judge. It didn’t grab me the way King usually does. It seemed very far from his usual style.
Okay, so, if I said it was better than Lisey’s Story I’m not really complimenting Duma Key.
But, it is. It’s much better than Lisey’s Story.
Duma Key is still over-written and sprawling. A decent novel, far from one of King’s best. It’s missing so much of the interest of Cell, and doesn’t scratch the surface of King’s best.
The painting thing – interesting tie to the supernatural and building suspense and curiosity.
It’s just hundreds of pages too long for its own good. King’s style, sure. But damn.

I finished Firestarter, which was, I think, one of the most fun to read of King’s books so far. I’m almost through Danse Macabre, after which I will begin Dark Tower I.
I’ve recently read a few more King’s – From a Buick 8, The Regulators, and Blaze. Liked Buick 8 the best, thought the other 2 were ok but lacking something for me, didn’t have the same obsessive draw as some of his others do. I have Insomnia, The Talisman, Faithful, Bag of Bones, and Dark Tower 2 waiting on the bookshelf.
