working for paperchase has its bad moments but in general i like going to work, the people are great (they make it enjoyable), and i know exactly what i should be doing (makes life easier).

if only it had long term prospects or related more to my degree – but we cant have it all i guess :(

    Volunteering 16 months ago

I found it! I actually like working with preschool-age children. So I’m volunteering at a local day care. It is lots of fun. Eventually I should be able to make this into a career.

So, my journey as an event planner is really taking shape. I had my first event last weekend and it went well. There were a ton of snafus (the florist was late, the bride was running late, the rolls royce broke down in the middle of Midtown, the photographer was lost in Central park, the bride’s second costume got left at her apartment on 23rd street…) but we handled it, got it taken care of. The bride was gorgeous, and the couple ended up married and happy.
All in all, it was an amazing learning experience for me. I’m enthralled with this process, and I even managed to get a client of my own this weekend!
    woo hoo!

    Applying 19 months ago

Well, I’m sick right now, so I’m not working today. So I decided that I would go ahead apply to some other places. My husband wants me to find a new job before I leave the one I’m at, which is smart, but I’m pretty sick of it. So I guess if I find one in the next month, we can both be satisfied.

I have an interview tomorrow with the owner of Curtain Up Events. It’s for an internship- unpaid, 2x per week, in NYC… but it would be the foot in the door that I need to get the job I’ve always wanted. Event planning is a hard industry to get into, but it seems like ever since I put my intentions out there, things are falling into place.
    We’ll see what happens! I’m excited :)

When I added this to my list I meant a job that I will have to do until I get the job I want to do for the rest of my life. This one pays $8.50 an hour and I can see myself working at this place for awhile. I work as a housekeeper in a Best Western hotel. The time goes by quickly. I get a workout. (no treadmill when I get home! And that will help me toward my goal of losing weight =]) I get to work by myself (and not deal with angry customers like at McDonald’s) I never have to work in the cold (McDonalds again… they liked to put me in drive thru taking orders—-when it was rushed and -30 degrees outside so I’d sometimes get nuuumb fingers and a red face) The people are nice (that’s a big thing) It’s what I was looking for for now so I think I can mark this goal as done
