our terrace house is only small, what people call a ‘two-up/two-down’, ie, it has a kitchen-diner, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom. it is the classic house in the uk for first time buyers and anyone without a lot of money. it has a little garden which my lovely boyf has built a little balcony over, which is nice in the summer.
the house is over 100 years old and stone fronted, and had no central heating when we moved in. we have added old-style cast iron radiators so now it feels cosier. it has nice high ceilings (they used to make em like that) so despite small square footage, it feels light and airy.
however the decor is UGLY. the kitchen ceiling was artex + orange with a fluorescent striplight. agh! we have painted it white but i long to get rid of the artex. the windows all have rotten bits, the doors need replacing too, the plastering is awful, the bathroom suite is old and there is no shower! oh, and the kitchen counter is so gross looking i do all my food preperation on the table. so we have a long way to go.
but i have a vision of (years down the line) our little house being beautiful-bright, light and clean, with a little nod to its victorian roots. sigh
