Oh yeah and my dad has near 4000 paperbacks alone. I have every textbook from younger years through college. I have a ton of books of my own too. Just remember you can always go UP. Add more shelves- i have a vaulted ceiling anyway. Oh and I really always wanted one of those wooden ladders to move across the high shelves! That would be super
How to have my own library in my house
How I did it: Slowly over the years, I have collected books. Some that were my favorite authors, others that were reference, and somehow I have ended up with 7 tall bookshelves full and a room that I call the Library. I love it. I have read ALMOST every book in it. The ones I liked, I have read more than once.
Lessons & tips: Go slowly. You will go broke if you try to do it all at once. Don't think you have to have a new copy of everything. Most of the books that are not just released, you can get used in excellent condition and pay a fraction of the price. Also, a lot of County Libraries sell their books that they have multiple copies of or that haven't been checked out in a few years.
Resources: Amazon.com is the main place I buy used books. Be careful that you read the comments and the ratings before you buy.
The local library sells their multiple copy books, or books that haven't been checked out in a while for $1.

Start with making the place full of life. Paint, hang pictures, make bookshelves or buy em, throw down a rug. Fill in the books! Always a project in progress. Continue adding, love your city’s used book stores.
In my room, I have a three shelf bookcase of books. I have more on top of the bookcase. When I get my own house, I will have one room that will be my library, and it will be filled with bookcases and books.

I don’t think anything makes me happier than filling up a bookcase, and then just staring at the lovely lovely books. Alphabetizing is thrilling.
I’m actually quite proud. I only have about 150 books, edited down to the ones I’m not embarrassed to own, and the bookcase is small but it’s full and I’m still in high school.
Now I need another one, I suppose. Aha, I think I’ve cracked the secret to growing a library…
Weird thing is I don’t even like reading. Sounds odd, but if I had to pick a room for my personal office, I would want it to look like a library. All the walls would be fully covered in books. Opposite of the entrance would be my desk. I guess it would be sorta like Mr Burns on the Simpsons.

In the past month I have added roughly 50 books to my ever growing collection. I found some great books at yard sales and dicontinued at the local library. I hope to hit some used book stores this wekk when I get paid.
My collection is now approximately 300 books.
I spent most of Sunday rearranging my books on LibraryThing to be sorted by LCC. I had to hunt down or estimate some of the listings, but it turned out well. The cover view option on my LT account is now quite harmonious.
It’s only a matter of months (I hope), and I can’t wait to get my hands on some IKEA floor-to-ceiling shelves and my 395 beautifully organized books.
