    Build a geodesic dome

Buckminster's Geodesic Domes 16 months ago

In 1979 I went to College at Grand Valley State Colleges in their William James College. I never finished but they had this amazing Geodesic Dome space that we used to have Dance, Mime and Math in.

I’ve seen a number of plans for building using EMT “house wiring” steel tubing. I just have to do it. But I am thinking about how to best develop the cover for such a structure. I don’t want it to be any kind of plastic and I would like it to be as best insulating as possible. Is canvas my only option?

My dream home- Inner dome with house, outer dome with garden/sunroom/hot tub etc.. Someday…someday…
Another nice idea would be to have one of those pod-home setups: multiple dome’s with an inner courtyard (kinda like Luke Skywalker’s house on tatooine in star wars…hehe)

Made it this summer. 2m high, 4m in diameter. Made of bamboo but the joints were a bit rubbish and not nearly as strong as I would have liked. It’s still standing though and is being used as an overflow guest room :)

My current geodesic dome idea is for something suitable as a tent, or survival shelter if “the big one” hits and we need to spend several days on our own… I’ve seen some good ideas for such temporary domes made out of corrugated plastic… Anyone interested in havin a dome party in or near Seattle?
