write a horror novel

Always loved horror movies and novels, as well as writing, so I would like to be able to concentrate enough to write something truly unique and eerie. I like a lot of Stephen King’s earlier stuff, but my favorite writer, stylistically, is probably Cormac McCarthy.

I think I’ve finally nailed two ideas. Whether these ideas merge and become one or remain distinct entities only time, and hours of writing, will decide.

I’m such a fan of horror, yet find myself disappointed by almost everything. Maybe writing one would teach me to be more accepting and humble about the size of the task, and if it didn’t, maybe it would be a best seller, unless i take the risk, i’ll never know.

I’d love to write a horror novel. I’m an avid reader of the genre and feel I have the ability. Currently, my favorite author is Stephen King. I intend to have it finished within the next 2-3 years.

My story will have a hint of Rip Van Winkle, but also a hint of something else that I won’t reveal now. It will take place in a Midwestern college town. The protagonist of the story is a man who discovers a shocking secret about his own family and his own person. How will he respond to the revelations of this dark secret?

I would like to write something to be remembered, like Dracula. Bram Stoker got Dracula published in 1897, and it’s still famous.
It would probably end up more like Harry Potter, but oh well.

I’ve always wanted to write a really good horror story, because other authors are scaring me with theirs, and I want to get my own back, cause I scare really easily. But I dont know how to get started or how to really scare people with my writing. Please comment if you have any advice for me.

I want to learn to write like Stephen King! His books freak me out so much so that if I am reading one late at night and everyone is asleep – and something outside is rustling, I’ll totally freak out & do this little thing where I cover it up… Dont ask me why, I guess its to stop whatever’s in there from gettin out! Yeah, I love scaring people too!
