it is inevitable
time drags us all along
like so many shoelaces
loose in its boots
all the green tea there is
will not stop my colors fading
keep my tissues moist
afford me baby butt skin
there is no stopping
this process of years stacking
upon years
like a library too full of volumes
My friend plants lemon trees
as if they will always be there
but in my garden
the lemon tree has withered and dropped its leaves
Do not worry
It is not a sign of inauspicious
things to come nor evidence of poison
but the way of all life
I wish I had other words
but this is the song of fading
the story of passing through
the window of time 2 years ago

At the end of the day
When the sky lights up in crimson streaks
Before all is given up to pin points lights of night
Let’s dance into all the shadows
Let’s whisper the love across that bridge of mystery
Let it not be a barefoot trudge on broken glass
Let it be love’s own tango lit by your beauty
your eyes saying hallelujah 2 years ago

Face, teller of tales longer than novels
Epics are drawn there and the song the soul sings
Has carved a graffiti of notations
Face, the roadmap you describe
Tells of journeys of the heart
Who would have known when you ran through the rain
Just before the fairytale collapsed
And you made up a new one to climb from the pit like Jack
Who could have thought that story would live
On your face forever, describing a certain corner of your mouth
Scribing its sadness between your eyes
Because someone tripped over your heart
There, that scuff mark on your cheek
Over there, a forest of deep curls like grain in beautiful wood
Tells of your daughters becoming women laughing in the city
And here, some lines of hope crossed by all that never was
The lines of your days as certain as crossroads
So anyone who does get lost in your eyes
Is certain to find the way home, is certain to find the way 3 years ago

The sirens set you on the edge of a razor blade
Pierced by this glass marking sound
You remember those dreams where the ocean heaves itself up
You sniff the air like a hound
Tsunami warnings on the golden beams of the day
Santiago whispers in your ear
“Here is the shaking
Here is the ground that faltered and bent and broke”
All around you the bluest ocean quivers in the light
You know this is a ripple screed by shrillest sounds
the Perhaps that shrugs and moves away this time 3 years ago

She slaps the bed cover with her tail
and winks
Her fur is sleek like a seal
Around her eyes is a golden symbol
Aires
She tosses whatever she likes into the air
Her voice is deeper than a foghorn
or she can sing like a diva
She is one tough cookie and sweet as a ripe persimmon 3 years ago

Even the ones you least expect
Your most darling daughters
One day, you look and they have rounded a far corner
There she is now
Across the ocean with her baby girl
I can see her in my imagination
her face turned toward some other sun
Absorbed in her own motherhood
Does she miss the silken cord that linked us
once upon a goodnight moon time? 3 years ago

Hurray for the dreamers
passions stitched to their sleeves
proud tattoo of what may come
Dreamers and fools paint the designs
invent the pictures and build the roads
pathways of desire and delight
See the girl in the frame
traces of laughter and tears shape her face
her music launched a thousand fingertips
fondling the strings of guitars
imagining the world into being
eulogy for paradise
in the process
conjuring the poetry and music
of restored dreams
believe and it can happen
dream it into reality
imagine peace in this world like leaves on trees
and it will come to you, to your trees, in your forest 3 years ago
